We are thrilled to announce the kickoff of a new project by SOIK in Goma, located in the North Kivu Province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. This project, funded through the Japanese government budget for UNFPA (United Nations Population Fund), is aimed at training local midwives and delivering high-quality prenatal checkups to pregnant women in refugee camps. Our portable ultrasound equipment, SPAQ, which can be used on smartphones, will be utilized during these mobile consultations.
This marks our first project in collaboration with UNFPA DRC, our officially registered partner. Moreover, this presents a fresh challenge for SOIK as we are stepping into the field of humanitarian aid, making it quite a thrilling venture for us.
The project period is set from June to December 2023, and as an expert in the field of training and digital ultrasound technology, SOIK is responsible for training the midwives, supplying the ultrasound kits, and performing follow-ups and evaluations for the project.
The success of this project lies in the collaboration between the Japanese government, UNFPA, Caritas Goma, and SOIK. We look forward to working together to explore new possibilities and make step-by-step changes in the local communities. Moreover, a six-day training session has started today, June 13th. We can't wait to share with you the progress made in this project.
